How can I teach my child to play tennis, when I don’t really know myself?

In other words how can we learn to play tennis? He’s 11 and we were at Canadian Tire the other day and just impulsively bought rackets, but have no idea how to play. I know that we have to hit the ball back and forth across the court and over the net, (so no smart alec remarks about that please.) But are there any tips on how to improve skill and how to keep proper score? Any helpful sites out there?

These are for you….now you have the advantages. have fun

Well, Serena and Venus’ dad was self-taught and then he has coached them both to many grand slam titles. You can pick up books on tennis, or I would say go on http://www.usta.com they have many links and you can contact your district representative there . Also, if you become a member you get a tennis magazine per month with helpful tips on how to improve.

Books and sites are great, but you’ll really learn the most if you go to a club or tennis center and take lessons. It would be a fun opportunity to be together and to learn a sport you’re bound to love. Have fun!! And don’t get frustrated!!

Try finding a tennis club near you. You can put your child in clinics so he/she will learn and have fun with other children at the same time. They have clinics for adult beginners also that I would suggest you try. That would be the easiest way possible. For websites there is http://www.tennisinformation.com
